In March of 2020, after 35 years of operation, the last coal-fired power plant operating in New York State was officially retired. As the last load of coal burnt at Somerset Power, plans were drafted for the 675 megawatt facility to be repurposed as a data storage facility with a solar power farm. But just like the hundreds of other retired power plants across America, these last ditch efforts were filed away, the employees left and the local town started to come to grips with the reality of life After Somerset.
